ARA! explores what happens when the gaze is returned. It is a collaborative performance-installation that brings together a fine artist’s first performance work and a performance artist exploring her disability within a contemporary exhibition context.
As our eyes meet, I smile at her. She smiles back and returns the look. This exchange becomes a moment of mutual recognition, inviting us to reflect on how we see one another. Curiosity is a beautiful thing. It should be nurtured and encouraged, especially in a society where being different can sometimes lead to exclusion. ARA! confronts the dynamics of visibility and power directly. As the eyes emerge to watch back, spectatorship shifts as the observed becomes the observer.

Presented as part of FEĠĠ x ARTI 2026, this project is developed through Assemblies of Becoming and exhibited in Soft Infrastructures, led and curated by Elyse Tonna. It is a collaborative initiative between Spazju Kreattiv and Aġenzija Żgħażagħ.
